(Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Monday unveiled what he described as a “comprehensive and fair” 21-point plan to end the war in Gaza immediately, secure the release of hostages, and set the foundation for rebuilding the enclave under international oversight. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly endorsed the proposal, calling Trump “the greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House.”
Under the plan, if both sides accept, all hostilities would cease within hours. Israel would withdraw to pre-agreed lines to prepare for the release of hostages, while Hamas would hand over all captives — living and deceased — within 72 hours. In exchange, Israel would release 250 terrorists serving life sentences and 1,700 detainees from Gaza held since October 7, 2023. For every Israeli body returned, 15 Palestinian bodies would be repatriated.
The framework grants amnesty to Hamas members who surrender their weapons and commit to peaceful coexistence. Those unwilling to remain in Gaza would be offered safe passage to other countries. Trump emphasized, however, that Hamas is the “only one left” not yet to formally accept the deal, warning that rejection would leave Israel with his “full backing to finish the job” of dismantling the group.
Humanitarian relief would be rushed into Gaza, with the United Nations, the Red Crescent, and international agencies — rather than Israel or Hamas — managing aid distribution. Critical infrastructure, including water, electricity, sewage systems, hospitals, and bakeries, would be restored, with international equipment sent to remove debris.
Day-to-day governance would shift temporarily to a technocratic Palestinian committee overseen by a new international “Peace Council,” chaired by Trump and including former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body would supervise reconstruction, establish an economic development mechanism, and create a special trade zone aimed at transforming Gaza into a “deradicalized, terror-free zone.” A temporary International Stabilization Force would also help secure Gaza and train vetted Palestinian police.
Arab and Muslim leaders, including those of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and the UAE, were consulted in shaping the plan, with several signaling support. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said the PA is ready to take over security and governance in Gaza, provided Hamas disarms.
Netanyahu said the initiative aligns with Israel’s war objectives: the return of hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, the demilitarization of Gaza, and the establishment of a peaceful civilian administration. “I support your proposal; it will achieve all of Israel’s war goals,” Netanyahu said.
Trump cast the moment as a potential turning point not only for Gaza but for the broader Middle East. “Today is a historic day for peace,” he declared. “Let’s call it eternal peace in the Middle East.”
While Trump hopes for eternal peace, Bible prophecy teachers will point out that Jerusalem will be a burdensome stone for all nations in the last days, with expectations of a coming war over the city. Christians remain hopeful for peace in the region, although they acknowledge it is far from being eternal. However, such peace could open a unique pathway for the gospel to spread throughout the Middle East.
Skeptics caution that the plan’s most ambitious element — Hamas laying down its arms and conceding defeat — may prove unrealistic. For Islamist hardliners, such a step would not only mark a political surrender but also be seen as the defeat of Islam itself at the hands of the Jews. Analysts note that this strikes at the core of jihadist theology, making it highly unlikely that Hamas, or groups with a similar ideology, would ever fully accept such terms.
