(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday unveiled a sweeping transformation of the U.S. military, rebranding the Pentagon as the “Department of War” and rolling out a raft of directives aimed at reversing what they called years of “woke” policies.
Speaking before hundreds of generals, admirals, and senior officers at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Hegseth declared the end of “politically correct, overly sensitive leadership” and demanded that every service member, from privates to top generals, meet stringent new standards.
Hegseth said all troops must pass physical fitness tests twice yearly and adhere to strict height, weight, and grooming standards. “Frankly, it’s tiring to look out at combat formations and see fat troops,” he said. “It’s completely unacceptable to see fat generals and admirals leading commands around the world. It’s a bad look.” He ordered that combat standards return to the “highest male level only,” with gender-neutral metrics applied across all roles.
The secretary also promised to overhaul the Pentagon’s inspector general and equal opportunity systems, which he said had been weaponized to push “frivolous complaints” that slowed warfighting. Officers unwilling to embrace the changes were urged to resign. “You are hereby liberated to be an apolitical, hard-charging, no-nonsense constitutional leader that you joined the military to be,” Hegseth told the assembled officers.
Trump, who joined Hegseth on stage, praised the move as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the military. “Together, over the next few years, we’re going to make our military stronger, tougher, fiercer, faster than it has ever been before,” the president said. He also vowed to “solve wars” rather than fight them, while expanding America’s readiness for both foreign and domestic missions.
The president highlighted new weapons programs, including the development of the F-47 stealth fighter and the construction of 19 warships. He touted the “Golden Dome,” a nationwide missile defense shield under construction, calling it “the most sophisticated in the world.”
At home, Trump said the military would continue to be deployed in crime-ridden U.S. cities, calling the unrest “a war from within.” He cited San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles as targets for intervention, describing them as unsafe and needing to be “straightened out one by one.” National Guard troops have already been sent to Portland, Oregon, and Washington, D.C., with new deployments under consideration for Memphis and Chicago. “I told Pete we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military,” Trump added.
The administration’s use of military force inside the United States has sparked criticism from governors, lawmakers, and constitutional experts, who argue the policy blurs the traditional line between civilian law enforcement and military power. Oregon has already filed suit to block federal troop deployments.
Still, Trump insisted his administration would continue to back America’s armed forces “100%,” while Hegseth framed the new directives as necessary to restore discipline and combat effectiveness. “We lost our way, and we became the woke department — but not anymore,” Hegseth said. “The mission of the War Department is warfighting: preparing for war and preparing to win, unrelenting and uncompromising in that pursuit.”
The Quantico meeting, convened with little notice, comes as the Pentagon is finalizing its revised National Defense Strategy, balancing Trump’s focus on domestic security and the Western Hemisphere with ongoing concerns about China, Russia, and global deterrence.
