(Worthy News) – Israel is facing a critical shortage of its Arrow missile interceptors, raising alarm over its ability to defend against long-range ballistic missiles from Iran as the conflict continues without resolution, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing a U.S. official.
Washington has been aware of the strain on Israel’s stockpile for months, the official said, and has worked to bolster Israeli defenses with U.S. missile systems deployed on land, at sea, and in the air. Since hostilities escalated in June, the Pentagon has further reinforced regional missile defense capabilities — but officials are now warning that American interceptor supplies could also become strained.
“Neither the U.S. nor the Israelis can continue to sit and intercept missiles all day,” said Tom Karako, director of the Missile Defense Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “The Israelis and their friends need to move with all deliberate haste to do whatever needs to be done, because we cannot afford to sit and play catch.”
Israel Aerospace Industries, the manufacturer of the Arrow system, did not respond to requests for comment. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement: “The IDF is prepared and ready to handle any scenario. Unfortunately, we are unable to comment on matters related to munitions.”
The Arrow interceptor is a key element in Israel’s multilayered missile defense architecture, designed to counter high-altitude ballistic threats, particularly those originating from Iran. A prolonged shortage could force Israeli and U.S. military planners to rethink their strategy, including the balance between defensive measures and offensive operations.
