The Youth@General Synod programing launched in lively fashion, or more accurately, in perfect harmony, as opening worship was energized by the musical talents of KinShift Music, led by Rev. Monty Jackson of Kindred UCC in Maplewood, Missouri.
The atmosphere was electric as children danced and celebrated while others filtered in to join the party. Youth participated in the service, reading prayers and poems that brought both energy and meaning to the event.
The message was delivered by the Rev. Bentley deBardelaben-Phillips, transitional executive of the UCC National Ministries, who spoke on General Synod’s themed scripture and its relevance in the lives of the youth in attendance.

deBardelaben-Phillips told the group, “God has always been the ground under which I can stand … God has promised the same thing to each and every one of you.”
Children were then welcome to come receive (gold)fish to remember to cast out their nets and God will be there for them.
Following the conclusion of worship and message, families were welcomed to eat lunch and enjoy an afternoon of festivities. Children lined up for face painting, henna tattoos, and balloon art, creating a joyful and festive environment that echoed the spirit of the morning.
With over 50 children and youth registered for Synod this year, the event is off to a strong start, promising a week filled with connection, engagement, and fun for all.
