A bold preaching initiative of Southern New England Conference sets storytelling spirits free

In late May, 46 pastors and lay leaders gathered at Silver Lake Camp and Retreat Center in Sharon, Connecticut, participating in a week-long immersive Preaching Camp.

Preaching Camp is part of Southern New England Conference’s new initiative, Project Proclaim, which equips today’s proclaimers with the tools they need to spread the Good News.

“Telling the story of the gospel matters now more than ever,” said the Rev. Dr. Chris Davies, executive minister for programs and initiatives for the Southern New England Conference.

Funded by a $1.25 million Lilly Endowment Grant, which was awarded to the conference in 2024, Project Proclaim partners with PATHWAYS Theological Education and Hartford Stage, offering small group cohorts, educational sessions, workshops and events throughout year.

The Rev. Donna Frischknecht Jackson, UCC News communications specialist, visited Preaching Camp and brings you along for a special UCC News’ spotlight on how Project Proclaim is transforming Sunday morning sermons — and beyond.
