The United Church of Christ (UCC) is preparing to stand in solidarity with queer and transgender siblings at WorldPride 2025, happening June 6–8 in Washington, D.C. This vibrant gathering will feature a variety of events designed for worship, advocacy, and celebration of God’s inclusive love.
“Pride remains a powerful act of protest, joy, and resilience,” said Rev. Derek A. Terry, acting executive director of the UCC Open and Affirming (ONA) Coalition. “With WorldPride taking place in the nation’s capital—where many policies of exclusion originate—it’s crucial for the church to show up boldly and visibly. Our presence testifies that God’s love is liberating, intersectional, and radically inclusive.”
The UCC Office of Public Policy & Advocacy has organized a coordinated presence at the WorldPride parade and street festival. The church will also participate in a trans empowerment service and an international march for freedom.
Rachael Ward, UCC Minister of Gender and Sexuality Justice, urges those able to join the rally and march on June 8 in support of trans communities worldwide. “As siblings in Christ, we have a moral duty to be visible,” Ward said. “By marching, worshiping, and offering resources to marginalized LGBTQ+ people, we live out the gospel of love loud and clear.”
Rev. Michael Neuroth, director of the UCC Washington Office, added, “Joining thousands worldwide to celebrate Pride will be joyful and empowering. This march and rally affirm our commitment to love and inclusion—values we will continue advocating for with government and global leaders.”
